Belinda

Name: Belinda

Age: Six years old

Sex: Female

Color: Tri-Colored

Location: Southern California

Belinda’s foster family is in love with this tiny beagle girl, and writes:

Belinda (aka Ellie) is the sweetest, most gentle little Beagle you will ever meet!  She loves people of all ages and does great with kids. She is good around all dogs, although she is more interested in smaller dogs.  Large dogs can intimidate her, especially when they bark loud.

She is very friendly and loves to be petted, especially to have her neck scratched. Belinda is generally calm, but does get the zoomies once or twice a day! She also loves to go on walks. We take her on a mile or so walk twice a day and she gets so excited to explore!

Belinda is usually very quiet.  She never barks at other dogs, people, loud noises, knocks at the door, etc.  However, she will bark when she is left alone.  We have been working on leaving her for short periods of time so she knows we will always come back and her separation anxiety continues to improve. We suggest her new family keep working on extending the duration of time she is alone or leave her with other dogs to keep her company.  She rides well in the car, so she would be happy to accompany her family wherever they go!

Belinda will need a crate for her ‘safe place’ while she settles into her new home. She has access to multiple dog beds and crates, but always chooses to sleep in a crate (we leave the door open most of the time, except overnight or when we cannot keep an eye on her).  An inexpensive, soft sided, ‘tent’ type crate will do just fine – she is not destructive and never chews on anything.

While Belinda may not be ready to cuddle up on laps just yet, she wants to be close to you and sleep nearby.  Belinda has not tried to get up on any furniture but would likely curl up beside you on a cushy sofa or bed if she were invited.

Belinda eats a lot for her petite 17 lbs.  She is fed ½ a cup of lamb & rice kibble twice a day plus a little fresh topper, along with soft treats throughout the day.  If she seems anxious around food smells, we will give her a mini meal or treat.  She doesn’t seem to like anything hard to chew on and the only toy she likes so far is socks – she will chase them if you toss and even play tug of war!

Belinda is one smart little beagle girl! She already learned the ‘sit’ command. For training, she is extremely food motivated, but cannot focus when she is super hungry, so work on training when she is well fed.  Belinda is working on house training and knows what ‘go potty’ means.  We praise her ‘good girl’ when she goes potty outside and try to give a treat at the same time.

This little girl has all the great qualities for a family dog and is ready to find her forever family!

Belinda was rescued, along with 19 other beagles, from an animal testing laboratory.

Until now, she’s known only a cage and the inside of a laboratory as her whole world.

Things are about to get so much better for Belinda!
